Why do we go to Confession?

We will discuss the confession to a priest in giving a meaning of acronyms, CONFESS.





C - Christ established the Sacrament of Confession.

John 20:21-23
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I send you.”
22 Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
23 If you forgive people's sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Since He knows that all people have weaknesses Mathew 26:41
Keep watch and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Other religions used Mark 2:7

How does he dare talk like this? This is blasphemy! God is the only one who can forgive sins!", to disprove the confession to priests but this is not the statement of God but the misquotation of hypocrite teachers who oppose Jesus.

O - overcome the world
In our journey in this world, there are things that distract our attention to God so many of us are tempted and become materialistic. This is one reason why we commit sins and distance ourselves from Him
Isaiah 59:1-2
Don't think that the Lord is too weak to save you or too deaf to hear your call for help!
2 It is because of your sins that he doesn't hear you. It is your sins that separate you from God when you try to worship him.

Let us thank the God because of the sacrament of confession that brings us again to God.

N - New Life
Mortal sin can lead to man's second death in hell. This is why confession is crucial since each sinner is given a new life.

F - faith in God
It is not easy for man to confess to a priest who is also a man. However, if we adore God, we will be free that it is God who guides us. The priest also commits sins but God gave this duty to.priest to guide us. They can also see the condition of people who come to them and confess.
This is written in Hebrews 5:1-3

Every high priest is chosen from his fellow-men and appointed to serve God on their behalf, to offer sacrifices and offerings for sins.
2 Since he himself is weak in many ways, he is able to be gentle with those who are ignorant and make mistakes.
3 And because he is himself weak, he must offer sacrifices not only for the sins of the people but also for his own sins.

E - Eucharist is Life
The sacrament if Eucharist does a lot of things for men and Jesus said this in John 6:54
Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them to life on the last day.

If we have a mortal sin, we cannot receive the body of Christ since we need to confess before receiving the Body of Christ.
This is what St. Paul said in his letter in
1 Corinthians 11:27-28
It follows that if one of you eats the Lord's bread or drinks from his cup in a way that dishonors him, you are guilty of sin against the Lord's body and blood. 28 So then, you should each examine yourself first, and then eat the bread and drink from the cup

S - Satan is sad
Every time man commits sin against God, the devil is happy but it is important to go back to God through Confession. No one else become sad when we return to God's fold except for Satan. The devil is more influential when there is no state of grace and we continue to commit sins.
S - Sin will be forgiven
No matter how big our sin is, God will forgive us. God does not forgive in stages just like what others think. They go to Church so their sins will be reduced. Even if we have sinned a lot, you will be forgiven if you are sorry and confess. For God there are no many and big sins. He will forgive and forget these because He is merciful
Isaiah 1:18
18 The Lord says, “Now, let's settle the matter. You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow. Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool.
